Eyes On Ukraine - A Short Form Documentary
Eyes on Ukraine explores the intersection of two crises: the HIV epidemic and the ongoing war in Ukraine. While much of the world has seen a decline in HIV, Ukraine faces an escalating crisis, exacerbated by the Russian invasion.
The film follows Yana Panfilova, a Ukrainian HIV-positive activist exiled in Berlin. Born with HIV and now leading Teenergizer, a youth organization supporting those affected by HIV and mental health challenges, Yana remains resilient in her fight against the stigma surrounding the virus. Guided by renowned photographer Gideon Mendel, Yana learns to use photography as a means to tell her story and empowering others. Joined by three fellow young Ukrainians living with HIV in Ukraine, Yana embarks on a mission to shed light on the growing epidemic amidst war, turning their lens on a crisis that remains invisible to many.
Through deeply personal stories and powerful images, Eyes on Ukraine reveals the resilience and strength of a generation fighting not just for survival, but for visibility and change.
